After spending a month studying abroad in South Korea, I
knew that the first thing I wanted to do upon returning to the States was get
involved in the pre-existing Korean-American community in Atlanta. I fell in
love with the language while abroad and wanted the opportunity to continue this
immersion style learning at home. Additionally, I plan to study Communications
with a focus on Media Production in college so when presented with the
opportunity to intern at a Korean radio station in Atlanta I leaped at it. The
key components of my project include but are not limited to: working at a radio station and learning how
to operate radio equipment, furthering my language abilities (as daily office
communication is done in Korean as well as news reports), improve my
professional skills by working with others, help Atlanta Radio Korea reach out
to a wider audience in Georgia. From my senior project, I hope to gain not only
radio abilities but also improve my language abilities in Korean as well. I am planning to minor in Korean in college,
and this will hopefully help prepare me for the placement exam in addition to
my own personal studies. Ever since I arrived back to the States, I have only
been trying to figure out ways to get back to Korea. I fell in love with the
culture, the people, and the language while abroad, and by doing this
internship, I hope to not only better myself but also help broaden the Atlanta
Radio Korea audience so that people can start to understand the culture I have
come to love.
